In a pneumatic suspension system, the pneumatic springs are connected by conduits to a reservoir which is replenished by a compressor through a non-return valve. Level regulators are included in the lines between the springs and the reservoir, the discharge side of each of the level regulators being connected to a common relief valve. This relief valve is adjusted to allow air to escape to atmosphere at a pressure corresponding to that exerted by the vehicle when unloaded. Alternatively, each regulator valve may have an individual relief valve. Such a regulator is operated by an arm 11 and an adjusting member 12 which moves a regulating piston 13. A spring loaded disc 15 constitutes the relief valve. If the piston 13 is moved to the right, air from a spring can act on the relief valve 15 through a port 18 and a bore 19 in the piston. If the pressure in the spring is higher than the pressure exerted by the unloaded vehicle body, air escapes to atmosphere from the spring 40 through the valve 15 and a filter 20. When the piston 13 is moved to the left, a disc valve 17 is opened to allow air to pass through an inlet port 16 and out through a port 18 to the springs.
