PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for processing a video signal.SOLUTION: An apparatus for processing a video signal includes an integrator configured to form an integral display area by integrating a plurality of unused areas, on the basis of the determination of difference between an aspect ratio of a display generated and an aspect ratio of a first content. An output video signal having an integral area, and a first content area related to the first content is generated by integrating the plurality of unused areas. The plurality of unused areas are integrated by moving the first content area at least partially toward at least one end of the output video signal. The plurality of unused areas are integrated by contracting the size of the first content area related to the first content.
