The present invention relates to an apparatus for protecting a driving element in a soft starter for a ballast pump motor and, more particularly, to an apparatus for driving a ballast pump motor which is configured to drive a ballast pump motor by determining whether a generator is overloaded compared to a generated voltage through an overload detection unit in a preferential trip apparatus and supplying the output voltage of the generator to a soft starter through an ACB, wherein a trip order delay circuit unit having a predetermined time is additionally installed between the preferential trip apparatus and the ACB to interrupt the voltage supplied to the soft starter through the ACB after a predetermined time by the trip order delay circuit unit when a power supply voltage applied to each unit is interrupted due to detection of overload. Therefore, damage to a silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) due to stress caused by sudden interruption of a voltage supplied to the SCR in the soft starter during starting of the ballast pump motor and failure of the soft starter can be prevented, consequently greatly extending the life of the soft starter. |
