PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obscure an interpolation pixel, by relaxing the discontinuity of pixel value of the interpolation pixel and a peripheral pixel.SOLUTION: A periodicity determination unit 101 determines whether or not there is the periodicity in variation of the pixel value in a predetermined area including an interpolation pixel. A first pixel value generation unit 106 generates a candidate pixel value of an interpolation pixel by a first interpolation method, and a second pixel value generation unit 107 generates a candidate pixel value of an interpolation pixel by a second interpolation method. When there is the periodicity, a control unit 103 selects the first pixel value generation unit 106, otherwise selects the second pixel value generation unit 107. An interpolation pixel value insertion unit 104 inserts a candidate pixel value of an interpolation pixel at the position of an interpolation pixel, and a local pixel value update unit 105 updates the pixel value of a local area, including an interpolation pixel and neighboring pixels, by using a predetermined correction amount. |
