Disclosed are a method for configuring a virtual file server in an internal network using a private storage area and a storage device thereof. The method for configuring the virtual file server using the private storage area comprises the steps of acquiring information on a shared area, by the storage device for storing data, which is divided from a storage area of a user terminal; and using the shared area of the user terminal as a storage area of a file server based on the information on the acquired shared area.
