This voltage non-linear resistance element (20) comprises: a voltage non-linear resistance material (30) constituted of a copper alloy which has a two-phase structure consisting of a Cu phase (31) and a Cu-Zr compound phase (32) that contains no eutectic phase; and electrodes (21, 22). This voltage non-linear resistance material (30) may be one which, when viewed cross-sectionally, has a mosaic structure in which the Cu phase (31) and the Cu-Zr compound phase (32) have been dispersed as crystals having a size of 10 μm or less. The Cu-Zr compound phase (32) may be constituted of at least one of Cu5Zr, Cu9Zr2, and Cu8Zr3. The voltage non-linear resistance material (30) may have been formed from a powder of a Cu-Zr binary alloy by spark plasma sintering. This voltage non-linear resistance material (30) may contain 0.2-18.0 at% Zr. |
