A cutting insert (1) based on an embodiment of the present invention is provided with: an upper surface (3); a lower surface (5); a side surface (7) connected to both the upper surface (3) and the lower surface (5); and a cutting edge (9) located at the line of intersection between the upper surface (3) and the side surface (7). The upper surface (3) comprises: a land surface (13) provided along the cutting edge (9); a rake face (15) located to the inside of the land surface (13) and inclined so that the height thereof decreases with increasing distance from the land surface (13); and a bottom surface (17) located to the inside of the rake face (15). The rake face (15) comprises protruding first areas (23) and recessed second areas (25) that alternate along the bottom surface (17). The first areas (23) have first depressions (27) that extend to adjacent second areas (25).
