[Problem] To provide an organic compound having excellent hole injection and transport capability, electron blocking capability, high stability in a thin-film state, and excellent heat resistance, as a material for a high-efficiency, durable organic electroluminescence element; and to provide a high luminous-efficiency, durable organic electroluminescence element using this compound. [Solution] A compound having a phenanthroacridan ring structure represented by general formula (1). An organic electroluminescence element having a pair of electrodes and at least one organic layer sandwiched therebetween, wherein said compound is used as a constituent material of at least one organic layer.
