The reciprocating piston pump has a pressure-type fluid-to-electrical signal converter (4) with proportional or switched character for converting the pressure signal into a displacement signal and an electrical signal. The path signal is presented as an elastic pressure-dependent deflection of a diaphragm (8) of an elastomeric material with a pressure connection (21) connected to a damper (7). The electrical signal arises from the deformation of the diaphragm by changing the electrical characteristic value itself depending on the deformation. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a reciprocating piston pump.
