[Also in Group XXIII, Glass sheets are marked where required to be cut and the marks sensed automatically to operate a device which scores the glass. The marks may be opaque and sensed photo-electrically, or electrically conducting or permanently magnetized and sensed accordingly, or may project from the surface and be sensed by a feeler. The marks, which may be in the form of adhesive strips, are applied as the glass is passed, in a vertical position, in front of an operator. The sheet is then placed on a table formed by rotating rollers 5 which move it past the photo-electric or other appropriate sensing device 8 which detects transverse marks and causes a device 10 moving on a transverse guide 7 to score the glass when marked. The guide 7 is angled and the speed of the device 10 related to that of the rollers 5 so that a transverse mark is made. A roller on a pivoted arm 18 then bears on the sheet 1 as it passes from the rollers 5 to a conveyer 20 at a slightly lower lever and severs it where scored. The severed portions 1a are then picked up in turn by suction pads on a conveyer 22 moving on rails 21 and placed on a table formed of rotating rollers 24 and having a sensing device and a device 25 for scoring the marks in the longitudinal direction of the original sheet. The glass may be scored to a shape determined by a template instead of in straight lines.</p> |
