PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sodium secondary battery which is a molten salt battery using sodium or a sodium compound as an active material, the battery having excellent incombustibility and safety, and a long service life.SOLUTION: The sodium secondary battery includes a cathode, an anode, an electrolyte disposed between the cathode and the anode, and a separator which separates the cathode and the anode and is immersed in the electrolyte. The cathode and/or the anode contains sodium or a sodium compound as an active material. The electrolyte is a molten salt containing an anion represented by (RSO)N(two R's each independently represent a fluorine atom or a fluoroalkyl group) and a cation of at least one metal selected from alkali metals and alkaline earth metals. The separator comprises an organic material which contains at least one element selected from the group consisting of sulfur, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and nitrogen and contains no N-O bond nor C-F bond. |
