[Also in Groups XXV and XXX] Wire rope is connected to the drum 6 of a tensioning winch by fitting over the end of the rope, or a rope tail 2 to which the rope can be shackled a sleeve 1, 10 externally shaped to be capable of being brought into locking engagement with a bore extending traversely of the axis of the drum 6. As shown in Fig. 1, the sleeve 1 is brazed on to the rope tail and is externally threaded to a thread in the bore through the drum 6, a screw driver slot 7 being provided. As shown in Fig. 2, a tapered sleeve 10, which may be split longitudinally, engages a tapered bore 11 and is held in place by a grub screw 12. The sleeve 10 may be internally serrated. |
