842,591. Separation of plutonium. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. March 9, 1946 [March 6, 1945], No. 7443/46. Class 39(4). In the separation of plutonium from a solution containing plutonium in its reduced state, uranium, and fission products, using a bismuth phosphate carrier, the bismuth phosphate is precipitated in an easily filterable form by adding a solution of bismuth ions which is between 5N and 10N in nitric acid to the plutonium solution which contains phosphate ions. As described, a nitric acid solution of neutron irradiated uranium is reduced with hydrazine, hydrogen peroxide, or ferrous ammonium sulphate, phosphoric acid is added to a concentration of 0À1M to 0À8M, the solution is heated to 75‹C, and then a solution of bismuth nitrate in 10N nitric acid is added. U.S.A, Specification 2,785,951 is referred to.
|
