<p>An over-voltage protection circuit 110 comprises two DC power inputs 112,114 and a soft-start module 124. The module 124 has a soft-start circuit leg 129 comprising a resistive element 130 which limits inrush current and a circuit leg for normal operation 131. A smoothing capacitance 118 is coupled between the first power input 112 and the soft start module output 128. If a condition for normal operation is not met, a circuit condition determiner interrupts the circuit leg for normal operation 131. If an over-voltage is detected across the smoothing capacitance 118, the circuit leg for soft starting 129 is interrupted. This interruption may be maintained until the voltage across the smoothing capacitance 118 is below a safe threshold, and may also be maintained for at least a predetermined time. The safe threshold may be lower than the over-voltage threshold for circuit interruption.</p> |
