PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately record thumbnail images in respective moving image files even if a plurality of moving image files are recorded during a single moving image recording. SOLUTION: A recording apparatus records a moving image and the thumbnail image. When a file division processing is to be performed during moving image photographing, not an original thumbnail but a prescribed image that is previously prepared is recorded as the thumbnail image for the present, and the thumbnail images of the respective moving image files are generated again after a recording stop of the moving image file by an instruction of the recording stop and the temporary thumbnail image which is previously recorded is changed to the generated thumbnail image. When the plurality of moving image files are recorded during a single photographing, inconvenience that the thumbnail images are not attached to the respective moving image files and only the files are recorded can be prevented.
