PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently obtain a bleeding preventing effect by a pre-treatment liquid. SOLUTION: Two pre-coat heads 41 and 42 are provided at a further upstream side than an ink jet head 10 in the direction of conveyance. The pre-treatment liquid is applied to paper P two times by the two pre-coat heads 41 and 42, and also the total quantity of liquid drops ejected from the pre-coat head 42 is made larger than the total quantity of liquid drops ejected from the pre-coat head 41. That is, to the paper P, after a small quantity of pre-treatment liquid is applied by the pre-coat head 41, a large quantity of pre-treatment liquid is applied by the pre-coat head 42.
