An item of clothing 10 has one or more regions 14, 18 provided with patches 20. The patches 20 are in the form of corresponding complementary shaped confronting flexible membranes located on the inside and the outside surfaces of the clothing 10. The method of fixing the patches may include adhesively bonding, stitching heat sealing, or heat or ultrasonic welding. The patches may be positioned in such positions as to correspond to regions where rubbing or impact is likely. Such areas may include the toe or heel region of a hosiery item, the location of an elbow or a knee in a top or pair of trousers. |
