[Also in Group XXXIII] A valve between adjacent holds of an oil tanker (see Group XXXIII), comprises a gate 11, carried on a rod 17a, which is moved to and from the seating 7 by the hydraulic cylinder 14. Liquid-tight packing 37 and 38 is provided on the seating 7 and the gate 11 is forced against the seating, in the closed position, by wedges 24, 26 and 35. The seating 7 is provided with notches 39 to clear any sludge which may collect in the grooves formed by the seating and wedges. Specification 925,102 is referred to. |
