920,717. High-frequency discharge apparatus. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSONHOUSTON. Aug. 5, 1960 [Aug. 6, 1959], No. 27263/60. Class 39 (1). An electron discharge apparatus comprises a travelling wave or other electron beam tube having a cylindrical non-magnetic envelope portion 20 and a cylindrical ferromagnetic envelope portion 21, means for producing an axial magnetic field and a ferromagnetic disc 32 coaxial with and externally of ferromagnetic envelope portion 21. The structure is duplicated at the other end of the tube and a flux guide 36 of thickness tapering from the middle to both ends is placed between the ferromagnetic discs 32, 33. The discs 32, 33 and tube 36 make the magnetic field uniform along the tube. The non-magnetic envelope parts 20, 22 are of glass or ceramic and the ferromagnetic members of Ni-Fe or Ni-Fe-Co alloys. Envelope parts 17, 23 are also ferromagnetic, 17 serving as a gun shield. Polepieces 27, 28 are joined by ferromagnetic rods 30, 31 and are energized by coil 29. The delay line is a helix 5 and the base 14 is of glass or ceramic. |
