Polyoxyalkylene ethers of castor oil and esters of ricinoleic acid which have been polymerized and/or oxidized by treatment in the hot state with air or gas containing oxygen are used either alone or in solution as hydraulic fluids. Examples of solvents are alcohols, polyalcohols, ether alcohols, ketone alcohols, and their esters and ethers, specifically the monoethyl ether of diethylene glycol.ALSO:Polyoxyalkylene ethers of castor oil and polyoxyalkylene esters of ricinoleic acid are polymerized and/or oxidized by treatment in the hot state with a current of air or gas containing oxygen, preferably in the presence of an anti-oxidizing agent. Specified anti-oxidizing agents are 2, 4, 6-trialkyl phenols and amino-phenols, and they are used in concentrations of 0,1 to 0,0001%. The examples employ (1) and (2) polyoxyethylene ether of castor oil having a molecular weight of 1400, (3) polyoxypropylene ether of castor oil of molecular weight 1600, and (4) a diricinoleate of polyoxyethylene glycol of molecular weight 400. The products are used as hydraulic liquids, either alone or as solutions in solvents such as alcohols, glycols, ether alcohols, ketone alcohols and their esters and ethers, the monoethyl ether of diethylene glycol being specified.ALSO:Polyoxyalkylene ethers of castor oil and polyoxyalkylene esters of ricinoleic acid are polymerized and/or oxidized by treatment in the hot state with a current of air or gas containing oxygen, preferably in the presence of an antioxidising agent. Specified anti-oxidising agents are 2,4-6-trialkyl phenols and amino-phenols, and they are used in concentrations of 0.1% to 0.0001%. The Examples employ (1) and (2) polyoxyethylene ether of castor oil having a molecular weight of 1,400, (3) polyoxypropylene ether of castor oil of molecular weight 1,600, and (4) a diricinoleate of polyoxyethylene glycol of molecular weight 400. The products are used either alone or in a solution as hydraulic liquids. |
