The present invention describes a novel method for recombinant protein production using a baculovirus protein expression system in insect cells, wherein baculovirus virion production is suppressed during recombinant protein production. The novel expression system produces reduced levels of baculovirus virions during recombinant protein production phase, thereby reducing the need for purification of the recombinant protein from the contaminating virus. The novel baculovirus expression system may further suppress expression of recombinant protein by baculovirus-infected cells during virus amplification prior to induction, thereby reducing selection pressure on the expression cassette for the recombinant protein. |
