A pneumatic tyre comprising a carcase of a single ply 11 of radial wire fabric has each ply end 11a turned up around a bead core 12 and filler strip 18 to terminate on the respective neutral axis of bending A-A of the bead region, and a flipper strip 13 of parallel cord fabric is wrapped around each ply turn-up with a short portion 13a disposed axially inwardly of the turn-up, and a longer portion 13c disposed axially outwardly of the turn-up and extending radially outwardly beyond the ply end 11a, but terminating short of the region B-B of maximum tyre section. The flipper end 13c is spaced axially from the ply end 11a by a filler strip 20 therebetween, and the exposed edges of the flipper and the ply are surmounted by filler strips 19 and 21 respectively. The flipper fabric may have a cord angle of 15 to 90 degrees. |
