The device (1) has a water cooled pelletizer (6) for producing a plastic granulate, a downstream discharge line (7) for discharging a mixture of plastic granules and cooling water, and a granular heat exchanger (11) for exchanging heat within the mixture. The heat exchanger has an inlet (16) for transmission medium and an outlet (19) for transmission medium. A drying unit (31) is arranged for drying the plastic granules, and several fluid passages (14) are arranged in parallel for maintaining the temperature of mixture stream.
