Improvements in or relating to pigmentation of spun and molded goods and cast sheetswith anthraquinone dyestuffs

Synthetic polymers and polycondensates are pigmented by incorporating therein anthraquinone dyestuffs of formula: where X is the diacyl radical of benzene -1, 4-dicarboxylic acid, 1, 11-azobenzene- or 1, 11-azoxybenzene-4,41-dicarboxylic acid, or ethylene1, 2-dicarboxylic acid which may be substituted by chlorine or methyl; and Y and Z are hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine or bromine. Specified polymers and polycondensates are polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polystyrene, polyacrylonitrile, acrylonitrile copolymers, polyamides and polyesters, e.g. derived from terephthalic acid and glycol. Many examples of suitable dyes are listed in which the radical X is derived from benzene-1, 4-dicarboxylic acid, 1, 11-azobenzene-4, 41-dicarboxylic acid, fumaric acid, methylfumaric acid, chlorofumaric acid and dichloromaleic acid. The compositions may be used for making spun and moulded goods and cast sheets, e.g. by extrusion, melt spinning, spinning from solutions, e.g. in xylene, cyclohexanone, acetone, diethyl sulphide and dimethylformamide, or by plastisol techniques using plasticizers such as dioctyl phthalate.
