Management of multiple connections to a security token access device

An electronic device, system and method for automatically managing wireless connections with a plurality of other devices are provided. The electronic device may be a security token access device and may be adapted to wirelessly pair and optionally securely pair with other devices. Connection information, which may comprise security information, is maintained at the electronic device for each connected device. When a connected device becomes stale, the electronic device implements one or more steps to manage the stale device's connection.

1. A method implemented at a first device for managing wireless connections, the method comprising:
storing wireless connection information for each of a plurality of devices wirelessly connected to the first device, wherein the wireless connection information comprises either a wireless link key or a secure pairing key; indicating a status of one of the plurality of devices as stale when:
a period elapsed from a last connection time stored at the first device for said one of the plurality of devices exceeds a defined period, ora software version of software installed on said one of the plurality of devices does not match an expected software version stored at the first device; and in response to the one of the plurality of devices being stale, implementing one or more of:
transmitting, to remaining ones of the plurality of devices not indicated as stale, an indication of said one of the plurality of devices as stale;requesting a connection password from said one of the plurality of devices upon a subsequent attempted communication from said device to the first device;terminating a wireless pairing with said one of the plurality of devices; orclearing the wireless connection information for said one of the plurality of devices.
