An image forming apparatus and an image forming method are provided that realize both the use of a decolorizing toner and a non-decolorizing toner and miniaturization of the apparatus.

1. An image forming apparatus, comprising:
a first image forming unit configured to form a first image with a decolorable colorant; plurality of second image forming units each configured to form a second image with a distinct non-decolorable colorant; wherein the first image forming unit is provided at an upstream position relative to the second image forming units along a progressing direction of an image forming process and the first image formed by the first image forming unit is carried through the second image forming units; and wherein the first image forming unit and each of the second image forming units are arranged in a straight line along the progressing direction.
