The invention further provides for the use of these solutions in production of materials, e.g., fibers, films, foams, meshes, scaffolds and hydrogels. |

1. A method comprising:
providing a silk fibroin material; and contacting the silk fibroin material with water vapor in the absence of alcohol, wherein the silk fibroin material comprises an agent selected from the group consisting of therapeutic agents, antiinfectives, anti-rejection agents, analgesics and analgesic combinations, anti-inflammatory agents, hormones, growth factors, polysaccharides, glycoproteins, lipoproteins, pharmacological materials, vitamins, sedatives, steroids, hypnotics, antibiotics, chemotherapeutic agents, prostaglandins, radiopharmaceuticals, proteins, peptides, small molecules, nucleic acids, nucleotides, carbohydrates, simple sugars, cells, genes, anti-thrombotics, anti-metabolics, growth factor inhibitor, growth promoters, anticoagulants, antimitotics, fibrinolytics, anti-inflammatory steroids, and monoclonal antibodies, and any combinations thereof.
