发明名称 Improvements relating to steering columns adapted for absorbing shock
摘要 860,097. Steering vehicles. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Nov. 12, 1959 [Nov. 13, 1958], No. 38427/59. Class 79(5). A steering column comprises shafts 1 and 2 splined together to form a telescopic arrangement and held against relative movement by a disc 10, Fig. 2, embedded in a rubber annulus 12, engaging a groove 11 in the shaft 1. In the event of shock telescoping the members, a conical or otherwise tapered member 3 secured to the shaft 2 penetrates a bore 5 in the shaft 1. The two shafts are encased in a member 13 containing oil, the passage of oil between the interior of shaft 2 and the casing being permitted through a bore 20 or by omitting one spline. The further the member 3 penetrates into the bore 5, the greater is the throttling effect caused by the reduction of area at the end 4 of the bore through which the fluid can escape, providing a shock absorbing arrangement.
