The frame (F) is provided with a display period (Fa) in which the display image (D) is displayed in the display elements (30) by the display control means (92) normally driving a plurality of pixels and the illumination control means (91) driving the illumination means (11r, 11g) and a non-display period (Fb) in which the display image (D) is not displayed in the display elements (30) by the display control means (92) engaging in non-display period drive of the plurality of pixels and the illumination control means (91) turning off the illumination means (11r, 11g).
