<p>Disclosed is a banknote handling device that can distinguish banknotes for which there was a mismatch in unique information between the time of depositing banknotes and the time of dispensing banknotes on cancellation, wherein: unique information of banknotes deposited through a banknote depositing/dispensing slot is read and stored in a memory unit as first unique information, and those banknotes are directly stored in a banknote storage compartment; if the deposit is cancelled after storing the banknotes, then banknotes that have been stored are paid out from the banknote storage compartment, unique information of those banknotes is read and stored in the memory unit as second unique information, those banknotes are discharged to the banknote depositing/dispensing slot, and a first comparison is performed by comparing the first unique information and the second unique information; and if the first unique information and the second unique information do not match as a result of the first comparison, unique information of those banknotes is read as third unique information, and a second comparison is performed by comparing the third unique information and the first unique information.</p> |
