摘要 598228 Disclosed is a mechanism for absorbing kinetic energy in shock absorbers and barrier ends for roadways. The mechanism comprises a deformable metallic profile (2) and a ram (1). The deformable metallic profile has an open section in the form of a‘U’,‘C’,‘Omega’or‘Sigma’, and is indirectly secured to the ground. The ram is attached directly or indirectly to a structural element, which is capable of being displaced longitudinally as a consequence of the impact of a vehicle and producing plastic deformations propagated along the deformable metallic profile as the ram is longitudinally displaced along the deformable metallic profile. The ram comprises a base plate (10), a core (8) joined to the base plate, whose forward part has the form of a wedge with two attack surfaces (11), two wings (9) joined to the upper and lower part of the base plate and in front of the core. Two openings (12) are left between the wings and the core. The wings embrace the metallic deformable profile at a height higher than the height of the wedge-shaped part of the core, but less than the back part of the core.
