The present invention relates to an optical communication device using AC LED lighting and a communication method using said device. In an embodiment, an optical communication device using AC LED lighting that receives an AC input voltage and sequentially drives a plurality of groups of LEDs is provided, the device including: a plurality of groups of LEDs emitting lights according to the control of a lighting and communication control module; and a lighting and communication control module receiving the AC input voltage, wherein the lighting and communication control module generates a rectified voltage, determines the voltage level of the rectified voltage, sequentially drives the plurality of groups of LEDs according to the voltage level of the rectified voltage, and performs optical communication through the plurality of groups of LEDs only when the voltage level of the rectified voltage is equal to or higher than a preset threshold voltage level. |
