Disclosed is an isolated polynucleotide that encodes an adenoviral hexon protein or a functional derivative thereof and that is selected from the group consisting of: (a) a polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide having the amino acid sequence according to SEQ ID NO: 22; (b) a polynucleotide encoding the functional derivative of a polypeptide according to SEQ ID NO: 22, wherein said functional derivative comprises the deletion, insertion and/or substitution of not more than 45 amino acid residues; and (c) a polynucleotide encoding a functional derivative having an amino acid sequence which is at least 95% identical over its entire length to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 22, wherein the sequence identity is disclosed in the specification. Also disclosed is the use of the polypeptide in the manufacture of a medicament for the therapy or prophylaxis of a disease.
