Provided is a coated nickel hydroxide powder in which dispersibility when converted into a paste is improved and agglomeration suppressed, and which can be filled at a high density into a three-dimensional porous metal body during production of positive electrodes for use in alkali secondary batteries. This coated nickel hydroxide powder comprises nickel hydroxide particles coated on the surface with a coating layer of a cobalt compound, and the total elution of ions excluding oxonium ions, hydroxide ions and carbonate ions of a suspension comprising 10ml of water added to 10g of the coated nickel hydroxide powder is 6.5mmol/l or less. To this end, the coated nickel hydroxide powder obtained through a crystallization step, a coating step and a washing step is dried in a drying step in a decarboxylated atmosphere with a carbon-containing gas partial pressure of 15Pa or less. |
