The invention relates to a quality control technology of lubricating oils during their production and identification. The technical result provides high information content of a method of determining quality of lubricating oils. The method is characterized in that an oil sample is heated at constant temperature with agitation of the constant mass at equal intervals, a portion of the oxidised oil sample is collected, light flux absorption coefficient is determined by photometering, the sample is tested for antiwear properties, the wear scar diameter and the coefficient of antiwear properties are determined using a formulawhere KΠ is a light flux absorption coefficient; U is a wear scar, mm; then a curve of the coefficient of antiwear properties versus the light flux absorption coefficient is plotted and the quality of the lubricating oil is determined from the slope of the curve relative the abscissa, the higher the slope, the better the antiwear properties of the lubricating oil and its quality.
