The present invention relates to a vehicle collision avoidance apparatus and a method for same. Provided are a vehicle collision avoidance apparatus and a method for same with which a steering device (for example, ESC) and/or a braking device (for example, MDPS) are appropriately controlled in view of a driver′s collision avoidance intention, a braking threshold value, and a steering threshold value in a situation in which a collision with a vehicle ahead is imminent so as to protect the driver safe to the maximum extent possible by preventing secondary damage which may occur after the avoidance of the collision with the vehicle ahead through lane change. The vehicle collision avoidance apparatus according to the present invention includes an information collection unit that collects information which is required for the calculation of time-to-collision (TTC), the braking threshold value, and the steering threshold value; a braking threshold value calculation unit that calculates the minimum braking time for preventing the collision with the vehicle ahead; a steering threshold value calculation unit that calculates the minimum steering time for preventing the collision with the vehicle ahead; and a control unit that controls the steering device so as to perform differential braking on the braking device and assist in the steering by the driver in a case where the driver performs steering avoidance while the TTC is equal to or longer than the minimum steering time and is equal to or shorter than the minimum braking time. |
