A system for mounting a ranging arm (7) on a body (5) of a longwall shearer loader as is used in underground coal mining. The system has an articulated joint (6) positioned at a bottom portion of the body (5) of the longwall shearer, the articulated joint (6) comprising a set of eyes. The ranging arm (7) comprises a first set of eyes (9) and is pivotally connected through the first set of eyes and at least one first pin (3) with the set of eyes of the articulated joint (6) positioned at the bottom portion of the body (5) of the longwall shearer. The bottom portion of the longwall shearer is positioned outside of a chain conveyor. The ranging arm (7) comprises a motor (12) that includes an axis. The at least one first pin (3) includes an axis, the axis connecting the first set of eyes (9) of the ranging arm (7) with the set of eyes of the articulated joint is positioned below the axis of the motor (12) of the ranging arm (7).
