<p>An apparatus and method of optimizing resources on a FTPICH is offered. The apparatus and method includes receiving a signal with an energy pattern from a network entity at a UE and summing the energy pattern of the signal at predetermined sample lengths. The apparatus and method also includes matching the summed energy pattern at the predetermined sample lengths to a HLHL energy pattern and determining that the summed energy pattern matches the HLHL energy pattern. In addition, the apparatus and method includes detecting a gap in the received signal based on determining that the summed energy pattern matches the HLHL energy pattern.</p>
