The frame (34) has two front uprights (40), two rear uprights (42), and two seat cross-pieces (46) to support a seat (36), where the seat cross-pieces connect the front and rear uprights. Two articulated rods (54) permit operation of the frame between a folded position in which the cross-pieces are moved towards each other, and an unfolded position in which the cross-pieces are spaced from each other. Each seat cross-piece includes front and rear ends (48, 50) shaped to slide around the front or rear uprights when the frame is operated between the folded position and the unfolded position. An independent claim is also included for a folding armchair.
