A method for controlling multicolour print quality is disclosed. The first step of the method includes the step of mixing inks of the primary colours cyan (C), magenta (M) and yellow (Y) to form inks of composite colours (such as red (R), green (G) or blue (B)). Secondly, halftone patches of the primary colours, composite colours, and a black colour (K) are formed using a computer and are placed onto a print substrate using a printing machine having the inks of the primary colours and the composite colours. Next, halftone colour patch(es) of a composite colour(s) that was placed onto the print substrate is overprinted with a halftone patch(es) of the opposite primary colour(s) (for example, red (R) is overprinted with cyan (C)) using the printing machine to yield a neutral grey tone (NGT) colour patch(es). The neutral grey tone colour patch(es) is/are then visually compared to the previously printed black colour halftone patch, which serves as a monochrome grey reference. Based on the visual comparison the ink balance in the inks of the primary colours and composie colours are then assessed. Use of the computer allows the grey samples to be formed as part of an image and integrated into a print job. |
