PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state image pickup device capable of recovering the SN ratio and resolution of an image even when the image is reconstructed.SOLUTION: A solid state image pickup device in the present embodiment includes: an image pickup element provided with an image pickup region having a plurality of pixel blocks each including a plurality of pixels; a first optical system for forming an image of the subject on an image formation plane; and a second optical system which includes a microlens array having a plurality of microlenses provided corresponding to the plurality of pixel blocks, and which reforms the image formed on the image formation plane into the plurality of pixel blocks corresponding to each individual microlens. The plurality of microlenses are disposed so that an angle &thetas; formed by a straight line linking between the centers of adjacent microlenses and a row direction or a column direction in which the pixels are arrayed satisfies &thetas;>sin(2dp/D), where Dis a microlens pitch and dp is a pixel pitch.
