PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for limiting tag function that can readily add to a fitted optical information reading apparatus a function to place electronic tags in a limited state, and the optical information reading apparatus.SOLUTION: An apparatus for limiting a tag function is provided with an antenna unit 70 that generates a magnetic field for placing electronic tags T in a limited state and a case 60 to which the antenna unit 70 is to be fixed. On the housing 11 of a bar code reader 10, two engaging parts 16a with which two engaging parts 14a of a rear cover 14 are to be engaged are formed, and two engaging parts 61a which are to be engaged with the two engaging parts 16a at the time of fitting to the housing 11 are formed.
