PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a freshwater production apparatus capable of efficiently continuing freshwater production and a method for operating the same.SOLUTION: Provided is a freshwater production apparatus comprising: forward osmosis means for contacting, via a semi-permeable membrane 4, a liquid including water as a solvent and a leading solution obtained by dissolving respectively specified quantities of ammonia and carbon dioxide into water so as to mobilize the water within the liquid into the leading solution through the semi-permeable membrane; a distillation column for distilling the diluted leading solution diluted with the mobilized water; cooling regeneration means for regenerating the leading solution by cooling a gas consisting of carbon dioxide, ammonia, and steam and obtained from the top of the distillation column; and recovery means of freshwater obtained from the bottom of the distillation column. The forward osmosis means consists of multiple membrane modules or membrane module arrays linked in parallel and possesses at least one set of pipeline and on-off valve linking the diluted leading solution flow outlet of the foremost member of the membrane modules or membrane module arrays in a case where they are serially sequenced and the leading solution flow inlet of the rearmost member of the membrane modules or membrane module arrays thus sequenced; a method for operating the same is also provided. |
