The storage space in motor vehicles is cooled by a plurality of freezing mixture plate evaporators made from profiled sheets of metal or plastics, the shape of the evaporators conforming to the contours of the walls of the storage space in the vehicle, so that the evaporators themselves form part or all of the inner lining of the storage space which is insulated all round. As shown in Fig. 1 the plate evaporators may be distributed over the walls and roof of the storage space so that cooled plates 1 and uncooled plates 2 alternate. The plates 2 are in good heat-conducting connection with the plate 1, a resilient metal spacer forming the joint between the plate. In a modification the storage space is formed by angular evaporator plates (Fig. 2). |
