PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element which has high luminous efficiency and a long emission life and exhibits high heat resistance and a long emission life even under a high-temperature condition of room temperature or higher, and to provide a display device and a lighting device using the organic electroluminescent element.SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element which has a light-emitting layer between an anode and a cathode is characterized in that: the light-emitting layer contains a 6-coordination tetravalent platinum complex having one or more tridentate or higher multidentate ligands; and at least one of the multidentate ligands is a carbene ligand coordinately bonded to a platinum atom.
