Disclosed is a method for encoding a video comprising: splitting of a current picture into at least one maximum coding unit which is a coding unit of a maximum size; determining a depth to output a final encoding result of at least one split region obtained by splitting a region of the maximum coding unit according to the depth by encoding the at least one split region based on the depth that increases in proportion to the number of times the region of the maximum coding unit is split; and outputting image data, which is the final encoding result of the at least one split region of each maximum coding unit, and encoding information about the depth and a prediction mode.
