[Also in Group XXII] A machine-tool comprises an indexible table 24, Fig. 2, means 172 operated with the member to actuate position-determining switches 187- 189 and a motor 177 connected to move or stop the member according to the condition of coincidence between the switches and pre-set selector switches 325, 326, Fig. 6. The table is rotated in either direction by the fluid-pressure motor 177 through gearing, the motor also rotating the cam drum 172 through gearing 162. A solenoid-operated valve determines whether the motor 177 runs at fast or slow speeds, the speeds being set by adjustable throttle valves. The cam drum 172, Fig. 4, carries discs bearing lobes 181; 182, 182A; 183, 183A; and 184, 184A, 184B, 184C, which lobes operate switches 187-191. The switch 187 is to indicate the zero position of the table, the switches 188, 189 are binary switches to by-pass or select indexing positions and the switches 190, 191 slow the table to its lower speed and then stop it in an indexed position. To index the table under manual control, a knob 323, Fig. 6, is set to the required position to actuate the switches 325, 326 by lobes 334, 337 or 339. If the knob is set to 180 degrees, the switch 326 only is actuated. When a start button is depressed, the table is unclamped and rotation commences. Rotation is at fast rate as soon as a pressure switch is actuated in the hydraulic supply. Indexing continues until correspondence exists between the setting of switches 325, 326 and the setting of switches 188, 189 actuated by the cam drum 172. Instead of setting the switches 325, 326 by manual means, corresponding switches may be actuated by solenoids controlled by a punched or magnetic tape. The tape also controls a solenoid to determine the direction of indexing movement. |
