This invention relates to a method for producing a float glass, including the steps of: cooling a molten glass while being caused to flow in a predetermined direction on molten tin within a float bath; and forming the molten glass into a band plate shape, in which an atmosphere above the molten glass is a reducing atmosphere containing a hydrogen gas, the atmosphere contains an additive substance comprising either sulfur or chlorine, and the concentration of the additive substance in the atmosphere, above at least a portion of the molten glass, is 1 mg/Nm 3 or higher.
