The device has a clamping unit (15) that is configured for clamping and release of a tool (5). The clamping unit is coupled to a transmission rod (16) for rotary driving of the tool. A switching unit (43) is manually switched between an operating position and a tool change position. A threaded clamping unit (44) is fixed to housing component (7) and transmission rod is connected to housing component (8). The transmission rod is linearly displaceable along the axis of rotation (9) and the clamping unit is actuated by turning the housing components. An independent claim is included for a method for tensioning a manually operated tool in a tool chuck.
