PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an element sealed body which is thin and excellent in gas barrier property without using glass frit, can eliminate a step of sintering glass frit, prevents the luminescence property of an organic EL element from becoming impaired, and can perform sealing through only one heating step, and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The element sealed body 1 comprises a glass substrate 3, an element 4 placed on the substrate glass, and a protective glass sheet 2 which seals the element 4, wherein the glass substrate 3 and the protective glass sheet 2 are directly joined by heating.
